Too Fast

A child slumbersBaby kept safe and warm
Cradled in her mother's arms
Drooling from sweet lips
Eating little toes
Finding new words
Growing too fast
Her pittering of feet
Is growing louder and more sure
Just a baby yesterday
Kids grow like weeds
Little girl on a bike
Making her way along
New friends everyday
Only a child not long ago
People warn you not to blink
Quiet whispers among friends
Rivalries for boys
She's nearly grown now
Teenager on her way
Unsure of herself day to day
Vanity on display
Woman she is called
X-ray on the wall
You'll be a mother before long
Zest for a daughter of her own
