Left Behind

Left Behind ©2018 Hannah Truelove

Left Behind

I shut my eyes, but for a second,
and all the world was gone.
Left, and right; I tested my sight
My ears thirsted for song.

The promise of time,
tight as a salesman’s lie,
the last grains of sand fade away

No reminder, no warning
first light early morning,
Taken like a thief in the night

I long for more time,
to change my mind,
to take the chance given to me
but I’ve already been left far behind
